White Horse Village is a senior living community in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. As part of the campus’s expansion plan, the community’s existing Porte Cochere was demolished and rebuilt as a 2,000 SF covered arrival. The design team framed the roof with glued-laminated timber (glulam) trusses left fully exposed overhead, so residents and visitors arrive under visible wood structure. Quality Buildings provided mass timber supply and installation for the five glulam trusses. To meet the project’s tighter timeframe, QB worked with project partners to have the glulam members delivered to site as individual pieces. The QB team assembled each truss on site and then lifted it into place on the new entry. Shipping the members loose made it possible to tie a rebuilt entry into the existing building without the timber package holding up the schedule.
